Swn Y Gan

Swn Y Gan is a South Wales based choir made up of experienced local singers from a variety of backgrounds. We perform all over the UK for paid engagements, guest performances, cultural festivals and charitable events. Our repertoire is expansive, consisting of musical theatre, folk, jazz, classical and contemporary. We were founded in 2020 and are under the creative leadership of Geraint Davies.

Swn Y Gan choir is led by a voluntary committee, made up of choir members, who oversee the strategic vision, performance schedule and running of the choir.

Musical Director

Geraint Davies has directed choirs in Gwent for almost 40 years and his previous choirs include Tredegar Orpheus, Beaufort Choir and Risca Male Choir. He also formed the mixed choir Cor Aduniad. Since forming Swn Y Gan he has been thrilled by the musicality and enthusiasm of the group. He has composed and arranged a lot of music and is a 5-time winner at the National Eisteddfod. His songs are published by Curiad and Banks publications. He has also worked as an adjudicator, as an examiner and as a columnist on The South Wales Argus and The Times Educational Supplement.

Dan Thomas started playing the piano as soon as he was able to reach the keys. He continued his musical journey by studying at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and has since performed as a soloist and accompanist around the world. Currently, Dan is performing across the UK as part of two duos. He finds it a pleasure to work with Geraint, and the two have been part of the musical team in three different choirs.

Community FirstĀ

Swn Y Gan believe that singing is good for the soul and the community. We always welcome new members to come and sing with like minded individuals with a passion for music. We also give back to our community. A portion of our ticket and raffle sales are donated to local charities, such as Mind Newport.
